Frequently Asked Questions

My company is interested in purchasing and installing Packer3d software to optimize the loading of trucks that transport cargos from several warehouses in Europe to our warehouse in Moscow. We would like to have some features added to the program. It would also be desirable to integrate your product into our IT system. We use Windows Business Solutions (WBS) for preparing orders and tracking shipments. The ideal solution would be to export the orders from WBS to Packer3d. While putting together a delivery order, we want to be able to see how the cargo can be loaded, how much unused space will remain, etc. Can such level of integration be achieved, how many instances of the Packer3d software can be installed, and how much will your services cost?
Packer3d will provide information about cargo layout, unused space, leftover cargo capacity, etc. Extensive integration capabilities allow Packer3d to be easily incorporated into virtually any IT system, and even be used in background operation mode. Packer3d Mini and Packer3d Prof are single-user versions and can only be used on a single workstation. If you are using multiple workstations, you can purchase either a single-user version for each of the workstations, or the Packer3d Corp network version, which offers advanced integration capabilities and an unlimited number of users. We will need additional information about your system configuration in order to provide you with an estimate of the integration fees.

All Packer3d versions as well as Packer3d Main online service can execute cargo loading sequentially, according to a list.
Furthermore, all except Packer3d Mini can perform vehicle selection optimization from a vehicles list.

All this can be accomplished automatically, in a single pass.
Packer3d Prof and Corp versions as well as Packer3d Main online service will sequentially carry out the following operations:
1. Boxing: http://www.packer3d.com/program/features/tara
2. Palletization: http://www.packer3d.com/program/features/palletising
3. Pallet cargo loading: http://www.packer3d.com/program/features/overview
Optimization is performed in steps 2 and 3.

The number of linear freight meters, or the resulting combined length of pallets or boxes arrangement in the cargo space of a vehicle, is listed under the Resume tab in the final cargo loading plan.

XML source files can be imported by Packer3d Prof, and Packer3d Corp network version features console mode with full command line support.

Our requirements are to obtain, based on the product code, the box sizes and the number of pallets that will be required for products listed in an order, using Excel invoice and box dimensions and wait files.
Do you offer the optimum loading calculation library?
If not, will you write such program for us? How much would this cost, and what type of licence would you offer?

We do not distribute separate algorithm libraries.
Packer3d will calculate pallet loading, and is available in three versions: GUI, console-based application, and ActiveX object. Each of these versions can import and export data. The data can be imported in the form of TXT or XML files, as well as from a database, so you can easily integrate Packer3d into your project. Packer3d software is offered under a commercial license. The prices can be found here: http://www.packer3d.com/program/price. We can customize Packer3d to your specific requirements.

Although this functionality was supported by the earlier versions, it has been dropped due to the lack of demand. If this feature is needed, we can add it to Packer3d Prof or Packer3d Corp versions for you by making minor modifications.

Packer3d software and Packer3d Main online service can be used for rail cars that are loaded through side doors.

Loading assignments consist of a series of incremental steps with a varying level of detail, depending on the type of cargo and qualifications of the loading crew. Packer3d loading assignments were developed in close cooperation with loading crews from a number of companies, and, as a rule, are easily understood by the loaders. Packer3d Prof and Packer3d Main online service allow a custom loading assignment format, tailored to your particular crew, to be easily created and used. To learn more please see: http://www.packer3d.com/program/features/reports

For education purposes we offer free access to Packer3d Main online service http://www.packer3d.com/online/packer3d-online, identical to Packer3d software, to Russian Higher Education establishments. Local client software Packer3d Online, allowing completed loading plans to be viewed and new plans to be created, is installed on students’ computers. Loading calculations are sent for processing to our online server, and results returned to the Packer3d Online clients on students’ computers.

Beginning in 2009, MS Windows 2000 support is discontinued.

Such functionality is not currently supported, but it’s included in development plan and will be available in future versions.

Packer3d is implemented in GUI, console-based application, and ActiveX object versions. Integration should be fairly simple. Our completed projects include integration of Packer3d Corp version with 1C v. 8.1.

We are not aware of any other Russian-developed software that generates incremental loading steps; however, there are some programs that are developed abroad. You can find a few competing products by searching the internet for “cargo software” or “container loading software”.

When container is not being filled completely and the objects are heavy, does Packer3d start in a corner of the container? This can cause the container to be more likely to tip over. Can the center of gravity be adjusted or moved to the center of the container?

Indeed, Packer3d algorithm begins placing objects starting from a corner of the container. If there are only a few objects, all of them will be stacked in that corner. However, there is a “compactization” parameter, which can be used to distribute the load as close as possible to the bottom of the vehicle or container. In event that cargo volume is substantially less than container volume, this option enables even distribution of objects along the container floor, resulting in a center of gravity that is close to the center of the container. In overwhelming majority of the cases this will be quite sufficient to insure load stability. If you have additional requirements, examples of your particular cargo loading plans can be examined and discussed further.

Packer3d flash services calculate axle loading for two-axle vehicles (such as Gazelle), and for semi-trailer trucks. Packer3d software and Packer3d Main online service currently support only two-axle vehicles. Support for trucks with more axles will soon become available.

Packer3d flash services can be added to your website. For more information see: http://www.packer3d.com/online/rent. Packer3d Main online service can also be connected using XML. You can contact us with any questions by using the form at: http://www.packer3d.com/contact.

Packer3d does not support pipe nesting. However, we can custom-develop a solution for you.

Packer3d supports palletization pattern calculation. For more information see: Palletizing Features.

Packer3d Prof and Corp versions easily integrate with other IT systems and databases; Prof version can be integrated with a single-user system, and Corp version – with a multi-user system.

Will your loading crew be able to tell from looking at 10,000-item shipping invoice with 100 different categories of cargo, how much and what type of trucks to request for optimal cargo loading? What if cargo will need to be partially unloaded and additional cargo later added? What about axle wait distribution, cargo fragility, stacking, maximum forklift loads, loading optimization based on the value of goods, in case of surplus, and so forth, and so on? And all that at the same time?
Packer3d will do all that.

The basic version, Mini, does not support palletization, packaging, flexible cargo fragility settings, and some other features. This version is intended for uniform or sturdy cargo load planning for containers.
Prof version has the fullest available functionality, but is a single-user version that can be used only on a single computer.
Corp version has all of the Prof functionality, and is a multi-user network version that can be run on a server and used by an unlimited number of users. Any number of users can be added free of charge.
Online Mixed Cargo Loading Calculation Service has the same functionality as the Prof version. This service is the right choice if the calculations are needed only occasionally, or if the power of your PC is insufficient for complex calculations.
You can learn more about the features of different Packer3d versions on Features page. Convenient checkmarks next to each feature indicate in which versions they are included. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us, and we will help you to make the right choice. To contact us see the Contact us page.

Packer3d supports English and Russian languages.

Minimum system requirements for Packer3d software are:

MS Windows XP, available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port, and at least 100Mb of available space on the hard disk.
A CD-ROM reader will be required for software installation.
Calculation speed is directly related to the performance of the computer and complexity of the task, and can vary from a few seconds to a number of hours. For example, cargo loading calculation for a single 20-foot container and 646 boxes of seven types will take 11 seconds on a notebook with an Intel Celeron 2000 processor at fast algorithm speed.

Packer3d performs mixed-size cargo container load planning. The quantity of boxes, box types, and containers for simultaneous loading is unlimited. Size and weight capacity of the containers can be set manually or selected from our database of standard transportation vehicles.
